First Specialized Economic and Financial Journalism Training in Syria

First Specialized Economic and Financial Journalism Training in Syria

Accuracy Press Institute (API), in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Information, conducted the first specialized training program in economic and financial journalism in Syria. The training was held at the Ministry of Information’s Training Academy in Damascus.

A total of 27 journalists participated in the program, representing the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Syrian TV, and several private media outlets. The five-day training addressed the growing need for specialized economic reporting in Syria’s evolving media landscape.

The program focused on macroeconomic and microeconomic fundamentals, financial data analysis, investigative financial reporting, and ethical standards in economic coverage. Participants engaged in practical sessions on interpreting financial reports, conducting in-depth interviews with economic stakeholders, and understanding the role of financial institutions, including the Central Bank and Islamic finance institutions.

As part of the training, participants visited key economic and financial institutions, including the Damascus Securities Exchange, Cham Islamic Bank, and other banks. These field visits provided direct exposure to Syria’s financial sector and strengthened participants’ understanding of institutional economic processes.

Trainees expressed strong interest in economic journalism as an emerging and increasingly important specialization within Syria’s media environment, particularly in light of ongoing economic reforms and market developments.

This initiative reflects API’s continued commitment to advancing specialized journalism in Syria and strengthening professional standards in areas critical to the country’s economic transformation.
