Why Do We Exist?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t

For decades, Syria did not have an independent media system. After emergency law was imposed in 1963, journalism operated under strict state control. Independent reporting did not develop as an institution, and public debate was tightly restricted.\nWhen the 2011 uprising began, Syrians started documenting events themselves. Ordinary citizens picked up cameras and phones to report what was happening around them. A new generation of \u201cmedia activists\u201d emerged, often working without formal training, resources, or institutional support.\nOver the years, the number of journalists and media outlets grew significantly. Many demonstrated courage and commitment under extremely difficult circumstances. However, war, displacement, political division, and economic collapse made it difficult to establish stable professional standards. Newsrooms were often informal, funding was inconsistent, and editorial systems were weak.\n<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The fall of the Assad regime brought expanded space for media freedom and public expression. Journalists gained greater ability to report openly, launch new outlets, and return from exile. It also created a growing demand for new journalists, editors, and media institutions capable of serving a society in transition.\nAt the same time, this new freedom revealed unresolved structural challenges. Hate speech circulated more openly. Disinformation spread quickly through digital platforms. Political polarization intensified public discourse. Many media institutions lacked the internal systems needed to ensure verification, accountability, and ethical reporting.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Accuracy Press Institute (API) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the United States. We are dedicated to establishing a professional, independent, and sustainable media sector in Syria.\nAPI was born from an urgent necessity: to provide Syrian journalists with the professional foundation required to navigate the country\u2019s complex transition and build a peaceful, democratic future.\n<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In 10 years from now, Syria is a free, democratic, and safe country where every citizen has the right to express themselves freely and comfortably.

\nJournalists will have been played their standards role and every journalist in Syria would have\nearned a complete professional training. Many of them will have studied in international institution\nschools and have played a leading role in promotion of peace and knowledge building, and fighting\nagainst extremism as well as militancy ideas in the framework of the democratic process under the\nleadership of API.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Eight years after we wrote these words, the landscape has shifted. The regime has fallen, and the dream is no longer a distant hope. it is our daily work. While we once dreamed of a free Syria, we now focus on sustaining it.
